The First Bear I Crocheted with Deep-Set Eyes

Not every first creation stays with you, but some leave a lasting impression.
The very first bear I ever crocheted had something special: a pair of deep-set eyes, or as I like to describe it, “có hốc mắt sâu”. That small detail gave it a unique charm I didn’t fully expect at the time.

Something was captivating about its expression. The eyes weren’t just placed on the surface; they seemed to sit deeper within the face, creating a soft shadow and a gentle, thoughtful look. It made the bear feel more alive, almost as if it had its own quiet personality. Even now, I still think about how that one feature transformed a simple toy into something much more expressive.
Like many handmade pieces, it wasn’t perfect. The stitches weren’t completely even, and I was still learning how to shape the body and balance the proportions. But those imperfections didn’t take away from its charm; they made it feel real, like something made with care rather than precision.
That bear has already found a new home. Letting it go wasn’t easy, especially knowing it carried such a memorable “first” for me. But there’s also a sense of happiness in imagining it being loved and appreciated by someone else.
The experience stayed with me. Now I know I can recreate that look: deep-set eyes, a soft expression, and personality in each stitch. And even though that very first bear is gone, I can always make another, each one with its own story to tell.
Sometimes, it’s not about keeping the first piece you make. It’s about what it teaches you, and how it inspires everything that comes next.
